  Westside Pavilion

(Located at Pico & Westwood Blvd.)

Speaker: Pedram Moallemian, writer, artist and community activist, born in Tehran, Iran

Moallemian took part with most Iranians in the revolution that overthrew the Shah’s American-Backed regime in 1979. He was arrested many times, tortured, shot twice, stabbed once and received a death sentence, all before he was 15 years old. At 16, he was able to escape the country and after months of traveling, ended up in Toronto, Canada by himself, where he did not speak the language or know anyone. He continued his activities abroad and was chosen by members of Canada’s Socialist Democratic Party (NDP) in 1997 to represent them in Canada’s Federal Parliament.
