Hi Everybody,
We have a great program scheduled for this coming Friday evening , July 18 th at 7:30 PM at Harry Bridges Institute , 350 W. 5th St. in San Pedro. Come and hear San Pedro’s own National Treasure, 87 years young Hope Foye an internationally known singer who sang with Paul Robeson, Pete Seeger and other leftist performers through the 1940’s and sixties and was investigated along with others by J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI and the House Un-American Activities Committee. As a result she had her passport lifted because of her criticism of the US government’s oppression of Blacks and other Leftist causes and she was blacklisted by the entertainment industry. She spent much of her career outside the country singing in Europe, Israel and Mexico and returned in 1978. She now lives in San Pedro and still performs on occasion. We look forward to honoring her so please bring your family and friends this Friday evening to hear Hope Foye tell her story. Harry Bridges is located at 350 W. 5th. Street. Park at the rear of the building and take the elevator to the second floor. The building is handicapped friendly. Admission is free and we pass the hat to pay for our annual Summer Peace Camp for students and all our other community activities.
