Two sessions with breakout tables for discussion.  Each breakout session will come up with priorities
for the new Coalition in three areas: program, organization, and message.

Organizing Locally - here in the LA area, what can we do better together than separately?
Connecting Globally - how can we help build a grass roots global nuclear disarmament movement

that will actually succeed?

The largely unknown fact that the U.S. and Russia have their nuclear missiles on hair-trigger alert is  astonishing

proof that the nations are still very much under the grip of the old us-vs-them thinking that  has plagued humanity.
The cure, as Bertrand Russell and Albert Einstein said in their famous 1955 Manifesto,  is to remember our humanity.
It appears we need a global grass roots movement if we are to achieve nuclear disarmament.

Los Angeles has a number of organizations that are actively promoting nuclear disarmament. Would it not make

sense for these organizations to form a coalition for the purpose of going global?  And if we are at it, why not look
at ways to cooperate for local and national ends as well? Los Angeles is a world class city that is looked to as an
example.  We have tremendous resources here.  A smartly designed program to build a local coalition, connect with
the other great world cities, and then link the cities in a coordinated world league would bring in new people and
money.  This is our way out of the box.  At least it could be.  It is worth discussing, and that is what this conference
is about.

The intent is for this to be a working conference.  The key result will be for existing organizations to get to know

each other better and take concrete steps towards making the coalition a reality.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Dear Friends,
 I am so very impressed and proud of A SINGLE WOMAN.
 It is a fantastic anti-war film, as seen thru the life & times of Congresswoman Jeanette Rankin.
 Kamala Lopez,  the director/producer of ASW, has done an incredible job finishing the film, which is now vastly superior to the earlier version that we showed at our house in 2007.
Jeanmarie Simpson could easily win the Academy Award for Best Actress in her role as Jeanette Rankin; Joni Mitchell’s music in this film is absolutely magical; and Martin Sheen’s narration is wonderful.
  Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who has arranged for
 A SINGLE WOMAN to be screened at the Capitol in Washington DC, says:
  "Congratulations on the screening of A Single Woman. Your work will make it possible for the singularly important life of Jeannette Rankin to receive much deserved attention.   Her life becomes more relevant for this nation and the world as we continue to proceed along a path of war.  Perhaps your film will point the way to a different path, the road less traveled, the path of A Single Woman.  All of our love is with you as your work begins to emerge.  We look forward to introducing it to Washington, DC so that our nation’s Capitol can rediscover the deeper meaning of Jeannette Rankin’s life, and in doing so,
 it may discover the possibility of peace."
Sincerely,
Dennis Kucinich
