Reverend Lawson  is a world-recognized leader in non-violent civil protest. He studied with Gandhi and later trained civil rights activists in the South. Lawson and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were friends and colleagues.  At Lawson’s request, Dr. King delivered his Mountaintop speech in support of the Memphis Sanitation Workers. The day after he delivered his speech, Dr. King was assassinated.

We  hope you can make it to celebrate the important work of Reverend Lawson and CAMS!

Must-See New Film “BOOGIE MAN: The Lee Atwater Story” - Now Playing at the Laemmle’s Sunset 5, in West Hollywood - The Director will be Present for Q&A Saturday night.

Must-See New Film

BOOGIE MAN - The Lee Atwater Story

Boogie Man is the surprising story of Lee Atwater, the blues-playing rogue whose rambunctious rise from the South to Chairman of the GOP made him a political rock star. He mentored Karl Rove and George W. Bush and without him, Ronald Reagan and George H.W.Bush might never have been elected. A hero to Republicans for his unrepentant vision of politics as war, Atwater is reviled by Democrats as the godfather of modern negative campaigning. Atwater’s playbook led Karl Rove to victory in 2000 and 2004. Will it work again in 2008? This film is a must-see for anyone seeking to understand the battle between McCain and Obama.

Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story premieres at LA’s Sunset 5 this Friday 10/3, and the director will be present for Q&A’s Friday and Saturday night. Come see the film that is rocking the nation!

The NY Times calls it "riveting", the LA Times "compelling", and Entertainment Weekly says it’s "incisive…terrific!" It was a critical and audience favorite at festivals and the Dem and GOP Conventions. The Village Voice called it "fascinating." MSNBC’s Morning Joe and NPR’s Talk of the Nation have featured director Stefan Forbes. The Washington Post made it their #1 Can’t Miss Pick and says "In this can’t-look-away documentary…there is more than one moment that will likely pop your jaw open."

Now this "must-see film" (Politico.com), called "hilariously shocking" by IndieWire and featuring the incredible music of Gov’t Mule (ex-Allman Bros.) is going nationwide. It’s urgent to come opening weekend so Boogie Man can get held over another week and get a chance to find its audience. See below for rave reviews from around the country and please forward this email to your friends. Remember, you are the tipping point!

"Generous in spirit and nimble in technique, this riveting documentary about the Republican operative (who died of a brain tumor in 1991) reveals a scrappy genius rife with contradictions." - Jeannette Catsoulis, NY Times

"In the can’t-look-away documentary "Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story," there is more than one moment that will likely pop your jaw open…Wow." - Neely Tucker, Washington Post #1 Can’t Miss Pick

"Fascinating!" - Ella Taylor, LA Weekly Critic’s Pick

"Immensely relevant, compelling…Honestly, every adult in America should see it before casting another vote." - Elizabeth Weitzman, NY Daily News

"Stefan Forbes’ incisive portrait of the late, infamous Republican consultant is a chronicle of how the culture war took over American politics. As such, it could scarcely be more timely…terrific!" - Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"One of the very best political documentary films of the year…powerful and strangely moving…Avoiding the didactic tone of too many political films, director Stefan Forbes has created a fascinating biopic…a terribly relevant warning about what is coming as Atwater’s heirs unveil the distortions and distractions they hope will elect John McCain." - Joe Conason, NY Observer

"A compelling portrait of one of the great con men of modern American politics…bracing…worth watching…why are we so easily manipulated into voting our fears? " -Patrick Goldstein, LA Times

"Can you understand American politics if you don’t understand Lee Atwater? I believe not." - Tucker Eskew, Senior McCain/Palin Advisor

"A model of sharp pacing. Lensing and interviewees are faultless." - Variety

"Mesmerizing, remarkable…a sensationally entertaining doc… it could cash in on election fever and rope in some true believers on both sides, perhaps even drawing Oscar’s attention…writer/director Stefan Forbes has crafted one of the most useful and eye-opening political documentaries of our times." - BoxOffice.com

"I thought I’d seen enough of  American electoral politics until I watched Boogie Man. This is a superb film - caustic, humorous and totally unforgiving." - Nick Fraser, BBC Commissioning Editor

"Rambunctious…eye-opening" - The New York Sun

"If word gets out, it could rope in some true believers on either side, perhaps even drawing Oscar’s attention…Mesmerizing…remarkable…sensationally entertaining."  - Pete Hammond, BoxOffice.com

"Intense…compelling…will touch hearts on both sides of the aisle." - Christian Toto, The Washington Times

"A timely exploration of the rise of the Right, the forces shaping modern politics, and a humanistic, mirror-like indictment of American repression, power-lust, and complicity. Without a trace of pandering, Forbes takes us on a riotous journey through the last few decades in search of our collective American soul." - Taylor Segrest, Documentary Magazine

"Fascinating" - Village Voice

"A provocative, timely, and compelling film." - Barbara Kopple

"Gov’t. Mule and Lightning Hopkins are part of the coolest blues soundtrack you will ever hear on a political documentary.”  - Brad Schreiber, Entertainment Today

Peter Joseph speaking yesterday at the Global Premier of his film, "Zeitgeist Addendum".

Premiering his highly anticipated sequel to "Zeitgeist." The failure of our world to resolve the issue of war, poverty, and corruption, rests within a gross ignorance about what guides human behavior to begin with. ‘Zeitgeist-Addendum’ addresses the true source of the instability in our society, while offering the only fundamental, long term solution. Director Peter Joseph has the ability to take risky subject matter and turn it into a visually, emotionally, and intellectually compelling case for a "greater point of view." "Millions of people gravitated toward Peter’s first film.
We are excited that this year’s Artivist Film Festival will provide a platform to once again, pique the curiosity of millions of viewers and continue the dialogue about topics concerning citizens worldwide," stated Artivist Co-Founder Dr. Bettina Wolff.
