I highly recommend that every American see ‘BAM 6.6’. I loved this film!” – Frank Dorrel

If there is one country we all need to know more about, it is Iran. Even with all the attention it receives, many Americans have no idea what Iran and its people are really like. We need to inspire our children to take pride in their heritage, and inspire our non-Iranian neighbors to find out what Iranians are really like.

BAM 6.6 documents events surrounding the massive earthquake that destroyed the ancient city of Bam in 2003. The movie is a tale of two Americans, Tobb Dell’Oro and his fiancée Adele Freedman, who were caught in the earthquake. It’s the story of travelers intent on going to the other side of the fence and experiencing a culture for themselves. Breaking down boundaries. It’s also the story of the Iranian people’s unfailing generosity in the face of absolute adversity. It demonstrates that humanity has no borders and that we find good people everywhere.

Can a movie bring about change? Jahangir Golestan, an Iranian-American from Laguna Beach, believes so. He has spent four years of his life making it. He continues to devote all of his energy to spreading its message. BAM depicts humanity at its best & shows the human race’s ability to live in harmony and peace. This is a message which is desperately needed, perhaps now more than at any other point in our history. ‘BAM 6.6’ won Best Documentary, Best Original Story and Best Director at the Noor Film Festival.

‘After viewing Bam 6.6, I could not stop thinking about how the world needs more films that reach to the very core of what really matters in this world, who we really are, and what really brings us all together. Watch this film. Your heart will thank you for it.’- Lime Radio host and producer Claire Papin.

‘An incredible documentary. This is footage of Iranian people who are just like you and me here in America. This

film shows the compassion of Iranian people towards these American tourists. Eighty percent of Americans never travel abroad to experience other cultures. This is a must-see film.’ - Antiwar Radio host Scott Horton.

Can a movie make a difference? The answer is a resounding yes. It shouldn’t take a catastrophe to bring

human beings together across boundaries – but when it does, we should learn from it.

November 21-23: Thousands to Converge at the Gates of Fort Benning, Georgia

Round-trip flights from around the country available for less than $200

Momentum for the Vigil to close the SOA is building. Thousands across the country are making their travel arrangements to join torture survivors and social movement leaders from across the Americas, and to demand the closing of the School of the Americas (SOA/WHINSEC) and a fundamental change of U.S. foreign policy.

Follow your conscience and speak out against the training of the repressive militaries who are using their deadly skills against their own people. Over 10,000 Colombian soldiers have been trained at the SOA and the effect are chilling. Human rights organizations have documented more than 500 reported extrajudicial killings by the army since the beginning of last year.

“Courting Controversy” – Ronnie Scheib, Variety

“Guaranteed to cause a stir.  One of the best and most important documentaries you will see this year!”

 – Scott Hoffman, MoviePictureFilm.com

LOS ANGELES, CA (November 13, 2008) –An inspirational journey of a boy who sets out to investigate the direct link between diet and disease and in the process discovers the world’s simplest cure for cancer: THE BEAUTIFUL TRUTH, written and directed by Steve Kroschel, will premiere at The Quad Cinema in New York City on November 14, 2008 with a platform release to follow.

Hailing from a small town in Alaska, 15-year-old Garrett, lives on a wild animal reserve.  After the accidental and tragic death of his mother, Garrett began spiraling downward.   His father withdrew him from school to prevent him from flunking out, after which he was home-taught. Garrett’s father recognized his son’s interest in the dietary habits of their animals and assigned a book written by Dr. Max Gerson, which maintains that there is a direct link between diet and a cure for cancer.

Fascinated and curious, Garrett embarks on a cross-country road trip to investigate the merits of the Gerson Therapy, which introduces him to: Dr. David Kennedy, the past president of the International Academy of Oral Mediaine and Toxicology and an expert on mercury in amalgam fillings; Dr. John Olney, a renowned neuroscientist, founder of the field of science known as “excitotoxicity” and leading researcher on the links between aspartame, MSG (monosodium glutamate) and brain cancer; and Dr. Hal Huggins, a former licensed dentist who now is a pioneer in identifying toxic dental materials, balancing body chemistry and exposing the dangers of fluoride.  Garrett also meets with scientists, doctors and cancer survivors who reveal how the multi-billion dollar medical industry has made it their mission to dismiss the notion of alternative and natural cures.

As chronic disease rates soar in this country, THE BEAUTIFUL TRUTH shines a light on a little-known but a much-reviled (by the American Medical Association) cure for cancer known as Gerson Therapy.   In 1928, Gerson, a German Jew, discovered a therapy based on eliminating toxins that are ingested from air, water and food by consuming an all natural diet that boosts the immune system.  With its whole-body approach to healing, the Gerson Therapy cites over 200 articles in respected medical literature and scientific documentation about thousands of people cured of their "incurable" diseases through the therapy program over the last 60 years. Dr. Albert Schweitzer said of Gerson, “I see in Gerson one of the most eminent medical geniuses to ever walk among us.”  Despite the dismissal by the pharmaceutical and medical industries, the Gerson Therapy has proven to be effective and his legacy is carried on by his daughter Charlotte Gerson, who is also featured in the film.

Torture is illegal, violating international treaties and our own country’s laws.  By its use of torture, the US has forfeited any capacity to provide international moral leadership.  As the late Arthur Schlesinger said, “No position taken has done more damage to the American reputation in the world – ever”.  Torture does not provide reliable information.  Torture potentially puts US citizens at great risk.  All of these are compelling reasons to rise up in resistance.

But the most compelling reason to resist and abolish torture has to do with the impact of these atrocities on the human beings that are the victims of torture.  As people of faith we are not first of all citizens of the US, but of a larger realm, the reign of God.  At the center of our lives as people of faith is our belief that every person is created in the image of God.  This belief is violated to the core by the intentional, deliberate brutality of US personnel who engage in torture, and by those who put these policies in place.
