Father Roy Bourgeois Faces Excommunication by the Vatican
Father Roy Bourgeois, a Catholic priest, torture survivor, Vietnam veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and SOA Watch founder is facing excommunication by the Vatican for his beliefs on the ordination of women. Father Roy was given 30 days to recant his belief and public statements.

November 21-23: Thousands to Converge at the Gates of Fort Benning, Georgia

 Momentum for the Vigil to close the SOA is building. Thousands across the country are making their travel arrangements to join torture survivors and social movement leaders from across the Americas, and to demand the closing of the School of the Americas (SOA/WHINSEC) and a fundamental change of U.S. foreign policy.
Follow your conscience and speak out against the training of the repressive militaries who are using their deadly skills against their own people. Over 10,000 Colombian soldiers have been trained at the SOA and the effect are chilling. Human rights organizations have documented more than 500 reported extrajudicial killings by the army since the beginning of last year.

Grassroots Power in Action!
 In the first lead-up action to the November Vigil, 90 people carried the call to close the School of the Americas to the gates of the Headquarters of the United States Southern Command in Miami, Florida on Sunday, November 9. The march and the vigil were organized by SOA Watch South Florida, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, the Lake Worth Catholic Worker, Miami for Peace, Miami May Day Coaltion, the National Lawyer’s Guild South Florida, Pax Christi St. Maurice and Veterans for Peace Chapter 32.
More events will take place this weekend (November 15-16) at Fort Huachuca in Arizona, on November 20 at Drummond Coal in Alabama and on November 20 in Atlanta, Georgia.
