Patricia Isasa

Was abducted by the military and police in Argentina when she was only 16 years old. She was tortured and held for over 2 years. Patricia survived and has dedicated many years to bringing her torturers to justice, hoping to bring accountability and therefore healing to her country. Thanks to her exhaustive research, eight of her torturers are now in jail, awaiting trial, including a graduate of the School of the Americas. After many postponements,    she expects the trial to begin this summer.

Protest at Los Angeles Times ~ Rally for Workplace Justice ~ Monday, February 23rd at 11:00 AM - Meet in front of the LA Times, First & Spring Streets

Protest at Los Angeles Times Tomorrow ~ Rally for Workplace Justice

Monday, February 23rd at 11:00 AM

Meet in front of the LA Times, located on First & Spring Streets in Downtown LA

Sponsored by LA Times Pressroom Employees Union Local 140-n

*************************************************************************

Pressroom employees are holding a Rally for Workplace Justice on Monday, February 23, in front of the Los Angeles Times, located on First and Spring streets in downtown L.A., beginning at 11 a.m.

This rally is to protest and bring the public’s attention to the recent announcement of mass layoffs and other flagrant anti-union tactics that management has used against us since we voted to ratify an employment contract in December.

In response to us exercising our federally protected rights to organize our pressrooms, management has retaliated by intimidating, unjustly disciplining and spying on union members; demoting union members for supporting the union; and, threatening to lay off 63 full-time pressroom employees, thus potentially creating an unsafe and demoralized work
environment.

Our union lawyers have recently filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board requesting that it prosecute the company for using these tactics against the hard-working men and women of our pressrooms.

We have endured the company’s anti-union tactics since we began our fight to unionize nearly three years ago. In January 2007, pressroom employees voted in a secret ballot election to be represented by the Graphic Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The NLRB certified the election results in June 2007 and we
began negotiations with the company five months later. We spent more
than a year at the table with the company until we voted to ratify our union contract in December.

Now, the company is attempting to destroy our newly formed local before it can even establish itself. Our pressroom employees and their families have been through enough!

We look forward to seeing you on Monday and appreciate your interest in our struggle.

This protest is not a call for anyone to stop working for, or doing business with, the LA Times.
