Publisher of Famous Anti-War Comic Book at UCSD ~ Thursday, April 9th, 5:00 PM

HUMAN & EARTH RIGHTS ORGANIZATION - a UCSD Student group - www.humanearthrights.org

Hello Heros!

Our program planned for next Thursday is not to be missed!
Thursday, April 9th, 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM - Rm 1103, Biology

Public is always welcome to HERO events!

Coming here from LA just to talk to the students at UCSD is one of my favorite activists - Frank Dorrel.

Here’s just a little bit about Frank:

Frank publishes & distributes ADDICTED To WAR, Why The U.S. Can’t Kick Militarism by Joel Andreas. This anti-war comic book is is being used in hundreds of high schools and colleges all over the country to teach kids about war and peace in a medium they can easily connect with.

Frank produced the documentary What I’ve Learned About U.S. Foreign Policy: The War Against The Third World, and will show part part of this video during his presentation on Thursday.

Like Jim Brown, who spoke to us this past Thursday, Frank is also a member of Veterans For Peace and through the LA chapter helped to start the Arlington West Memorial, which has been erected by volunteers every Sunday since February 2004, next to the Santa Monica Pier .

A long time supporter of KPFK 90.7 FM Radio, Frank is also on the Executive Board of the Office of the Americas. (You may recall the talk last quarter by Base Bonpane, who founded Office of the Americas with his wife Therese). He is also on the board of CAMS - Coalition Against Militarism in Our Schools. And every year he joins over 22,000 people from around the country to the protest to close The School of the Americas, at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Frank also works closely with NO MORE VICTIMS and with many other peace & justice organizations in Los Angeles and around the country. He has put on many anti-war events in the LA area in the past 7 years, and with his wife Jane, has hosted many events and fundraisers for progressive causes and candidates, such as Cindy Sheehan

So you can see why I’m so eager for you to meet Frank! And afterwards, join Frank at Price Center East for the "In Our Hands: Group Exhibit of Art Inspired by the Values of Cesar Chavez" with free food, music and a chance to meet socially conscious artists.

See our website at www.humanearthrights.org for more information and other great HERO programs.

We warmly invite you to join us and serve as a people’s ambassador to the island this summer.

Our TEACHERS INTRODUCTION TO CUBA TOUR is for educators seeking to discover the reasons why Cuban youth rank highest academically in the Americas, and how come island teachers are held in such high esteem. You’ll get a firsthand take on Cuba’s free education to through university, and the resulting social benefits.

Members of this envoy will meet, dialogue and network with distinguished pedagogical authorities from K-12 institutions, universities, and unions and ministries of education. Tour delegates will also experience unparalleled cultural activities including Cuban music and dance lessons and ample nightlife. You can plan on an engagement with a world-famed urban planner, meet-and-greets with contemporary artists, and an exclusive glimpse into Afrocuban life.

You’ll see many facets of the stunning cosmopolitan capital of Havana, and rustic farm villages in western Pinar del Rio province, and the awe-inspiring tropical geography of Vinales Valley — all from the comfort of your five-star Hotel Habana Libre in the heart of the city’s leisure hub.

This book brings new attention to Simon Rawidowicz (1897–1957), the wide-ranging Jewish thinker and scholar who taught at Brandeis University in the 1950s. At the heart of Myers’ book is a chapter that Rawidowicz wrote as a coda to his Hebrew tome Babylon and Jerusalem (1957) but never published. In it, Rawidowicz shifted his decades-long preoccupation with the “Jewish Question” to what he called the “Arab Question.” Asserting that the “Arab Question” had become a most urgent political and moral matter for Jews after 1948, Rawidowicz called for an end to discrimination against Arabs resident in Israeland more provocatively, for the repatriation of Arab refugees from 1948.
