HUMAN & EARTH RIGHTS ORGANIZATION - a UCSD Student group - www.humanearthrights.org
Hello Heros!
Our program planned for next Thursday is not to be missed!
Thursday, April 9th, 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM - Rm 1103, Biology
Public is always welcome to HERO events!
Coming here from LA just to talk to the students at UCSD is one of my favorite activists - Frank Dorrel.
Here’s just a little bit about Frank:
Frank publishes & distributes ADDICTED To WAR, Why The U.S. Can’t Kick Militarism by Joel Andreas. This anti-war comic book is is being used in hundreds of high schools and colleges all over the country to teach kids about war and peace in a medium they can easily connect with.
Frank produced the documentary What I’ve Learned About U.S. Foreign Policy: The War Against The Third World, and will show part part of this video during his presentation on Thursday.
Like Jim Brown, who spoke to us this past Thursday, Frank is also a member of Veterans For Peace and through the LA chapter helped to start the Arlington West Memorial, which has been erected by volunteers every Sunday since February 2004, next to the Santa Monica Pier .
A long time supporter of KPFK 90.7 FM Radio, Frank is also on the Executive Board of the Office of the Americas. (You may recall the talk last quarter by Base Bonpane, who founded Office of the Americas with his wife Therese). He is also on the board of CAMS - Coalition Against Militarism in Our Schools. And every year he joins over 22,000 people from around the country to the protest to close The School of the Americas, at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Frank also works closely with NO MORE VICTIMS and with many other peace & justice organizations in Los Angeles and around the country. He has put on many anti-war events in the LA area in the past 7 years, and with his wife Jane, has hosted many events and fundraisers for progressive causes and candidates, such as Cindy Sheehan
So you can see why I’m so eager for you to meet Frank! And afterwards, join Frank at Price Center East for the "In Our Hands: Group Exhibit of Art Inspired by the Values of Cesar Chavez" with free food, music and a chance to meet socially conscious artists.
See our website at www.humanearthrights.org for more information and other great HERO programs.
