CHILTIC ISTAC has been in the vanguard of providing progressive cultural and political music since the early 1980’s. They have recently regrouped and are playing music that includes their original 80’s tunes and cover songs from several great Latin American/ new artists. Their music continues to be both for those who want to hear the classics and for those who want to dance Cubia, Cha Cha, and Salsa Rhythms. They played in early June of this year at the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony for the FMLN in El Salvador to a crowd of 70,000 people.
ROSS ALTMAN is a Singer-Songfighter. He sings "to comfort the afflicted, and afflict the comfortable."
He sing old labor songs, antiwar songs, civil rights songs, topical/protest songs, traditional songs, love songs, Jewish songs in Yiddish and English, and original songs that carry on that tradition. Ross grew up on the folk music of Woodie Guthrie, Leadbelly, Pete Seeger, Burl Ives, Theodore Bikel, Josh White, Big Bill Broonzy, Bill Holliday, and later on Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton & Malvina Reynolds.
The OOA SONGSTERS are the musical wing of the Office of the Americas. Their focus is contemporary music about current events. Many of their numbers are intended to bring the audience together in song, leading to a revolution where everyone can dance. The songsters meet once a month to share food, music, and politics – in public performances they bring that party to a larger group. They love it when you sing along.
The OFFICE OF THE AMERICAS is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the cause of international justice and peace through broad based educational programs. Founded in 1983 in Los Angeles by Blase & Theresa Bonpane, the Office of the Americas is a recognized source of documentation and analysis of current international events with a focus on the foreign policy of the United States.
Through its public education campaign, the Office of the Americas works to reach constituencies of students, religious and human rights organizations and all others concerned about issues of international justice and peace. Our goal is to end the long-standing international culture of militarism.
WORLD FOCUS, hosted by Blase Bonpane, can be heard every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on KPFK 90.7 FM Radio. World Focus features radio interviews with key scholars, analysts and movement leaders who are generally excluded from commercial media.
