On Sunday, September 20th, individuals throughout the world will join together to celebrate the seventh annual Roots & Shoots Day of Peace in support of the United Nations International Day of Peace. A Roots & Shoots festival will be held on this day in Santa Monica, California to promote peace and celebrate youth and adults that foster understanding of different cultures and harmonious coexistence among people, animals and the environment.
The event will feature live music, arts and crafts, celebrity guests, youth projects, earth conscious vendors, pet adoptions and a Peace Dove Parade. Peace dove kites are created by youth out of reused materials and flown in communities to represent solidarity among people, animals and nature. Children will have the opportunity to visit an authentic Gombe, Tanzania tent similar to the one used by Dr. Goodall during her research expeditions and the chance to add their handprint to a giant peace banner.
This is a free event open to all ages. Pets are welcome. Please note that Dr. Jane Goodall will not be present at this event.
Find out how to get involved in other Day of Peace events throughout the nation and world by visiting the Roots & Shoots website.
Veterans For Peace, Los Angeles will have a table at this FREE event on the Santa Monica Pier. The Arlington West Memorial will be up from sun up to sun down on this Sunday, September 20th on the sand on the north side of the Santa Monica Pier.
